Ultrafaux Ensemble, led by acclaimed composer and guitarist Michael Joseph Harris, performs original music inspired by Gypsy Jazz, French Musette, Funk, Brazilian Choro, Blues, be-bop, and western swing. The group draws on a roster of top musicians including violinist Jason Anick, Jonathan Greene on clarinet, accordionist Dallas Vietty, clarinetist Giacomo Smith, violinist Evan Price, clarinetist Connor Stewart, and more. Ultrafaux has been featured at top festivals and venues all over the world including Festival Django Reinhardt in France, The Kennedy Center, Preston Jazz and Improvisation Festival UK, Midwest Gypsy Swingfest, Django-a-Gogo, Django By The Sea, Djangoary, Carrboro Django Jazzfest, Django Birthday Festival, and Charm City Django Jazzfest. Ultrafaux songs “Latcho Dromo” and “Signs of Struggle” were featured on Django Festival #9 and #11, an annual compilation of the finest Gypsy Jazz in the world produced by Jon Larsen in Oslo. Ultrafaux was the only Gypsy Jazz band to ever be featured at Charm City Bluegrass Festival in 2019. The following year, Ultrafaux won a scholarship to attend the Folk Alliance International conference as the only original Gypsy Jazz-inspired act. Their 2020 release Tangent crosses barriers between genre and style by mixing modern harmonic and rhythmic ideas with a variety of traditional world music styles.
