The Beach Boys – Becoming The Beach Boys: The Complete Hite & Dorinda Morgan Sessions (2016)

The Beach Boys‘ earliest recordings will be released on a two-disc set later this summer. Becoming the Beach Boys: The Complete Hite & Dorinda Morgan Sessions gathers nine songs over 63 tracks, chronicling the formation of the group’s first sessions.

The songs collected on Becoming the Beach Boys include the band’s first single, “Surfin’,” and early versions of the hits “Surfin’ Safari” and “Surfer Girl,” as well as “Luau,” “Lavender,” “Judy,” “Beach Boy Stomp,” “Barbie” and “What Is a Young Girl Made Of,” all recorded between September 1961 and March 1962, before they signed with Capitol Records.

The set, which will be issued on Aug. 26, includes multiple takes (including false starts), master takes and studio banter from those sessions. More than 40 of the tracks are previously unreleased.
