This remarkable album by pianist / composer Chick Corea marks his first full-scale entry into contemporary Classical music. It includes his five-part suite for septet (piano, string quartet, flute and French horn) and another shorter piece, originally composed for guitarist Al Di Meola. The septet consists of Classical musicians and includes flautist Steve Kujala, who also recorded a duo album with Corea (“Voyage”). The music, although intended as contemporary Classical, hints clearly to the composer’s Jazz background, both rhythmically and melodically. Beautifully performed, with some exceptional flute solos, this is a piece of music that is worthy of habitual revisits, satisfaction guaranteed. A must to Jazz-Classical Fusion fans and Corea connoisseurs!
