Enlisting the award-winning Red Hot Rhythm Rustlers for vocal and instrumental support, Mikki has put together a full package of dynamic vocals, unique songwriting, and professional musicianship. Producer Marvin O’Dell and engineer Bryan Kuban (Kube Studios, Mesa, AZ) contribute their expertise in technical matters, producing an album that is definitely worthy of radio play.
Mikki’s appreciation of the love and influence of her parents is shown in songs like “Ride ‘Em Cowgirl,” “His Mama’s Love,” and “Just Like You,” but she is also very effective in dealing with more adult themes. While “Johnny (Harness the Team)” might bring a tear or two, “Big Dreams” is just as effective in putting a smile on your face. And “Girl’s Gotta Do” might just cause an out-loud chuckle. The shining jewel in terms of songwriting may be Mikki’s “Texas Kerosene,” which prompted one critic to say, “We might be looking at the next Cindy Walker here.” And her rendition of the gospel standard “How Great Thou Art” performed as a duet with Tom Boyer on guitar, is as pretty as a song can get.
