With bands like North Mississippi Allstars and Hill Country Revue, northern Mississippi has become identified with a brand of lowdown, gritty blues. Then comes Turchi with another representation of the northern Mississippi sound. Road Ends in Water (Devil Down Records, 2012) has plenty of greasy slide guitar in songs with such classic themes as drinking and the devil. In “Do for You,” an uptempo toe-tapper, Turchi’s vocals are reminiscent of Bob Dylan.Turchi has done a masterful job of presenting his own music, who likes the pure blues in an unadulterated form done by modern musicians.
The iconic and influential band has also announced the March 19 release of the live “Wiser For The Time” album (Silver Arrow/Megaforce Records).Albums will contain 26 songs — 15 acoustic and 11 electric — from the band’s five-night, sold-out New York City performances in the fall of 2010. These never-released-before versions a double album .
Chris Robinson (lead vocals, guitar), Rich Robinson (guitar, vocals), Steve Gorman (drums), Sven Pipien (bass) and Adam MacDougall (keyboardist) of THE BLACK CROWES “are thrilled to announce the addition of our good friend Jackie Greene” on guitar and vocals.

Familiar Stranger’ follows the recent release of ‘The Double Life’ EP which spawned the first single ‘Don’t Wanna Grow Up Anymore’ and saw Bob Evans hit the road for a string of unique acoustic shows around the country throughout November.
Produced by Dean Reid (Mystery Jets and Marina & The Diamonds), ‘Familiar Stranger’ signifies a new musical chapter as the beloved ‘suburban’ trilogy comes to a close. The album was recorded at Sing Sing Studios in Melbourne throughout 2012 and was mixed by Scott Horscroft (Empire Of The Sun and The Sleepy Jackson) and Tony Buchen, who also played on bass for the album and has previously worked with Tim Finn and Phrase. Joey Waronker from the USA was invited to play drums on the album and made the trip especially to Melbourne for recording. Joey has previously worked with Beck, Air, Paul McCartney, The Smashing Pumpkins and R.E.M.

Material Me is quite the mixed bag. The album simultaneously delights and confuses– its music is enjoyable enough, but nobody particularly wants Tilian Pearson paving this path of haphazardly arranged electro-pop. Here’s hoping the singer’s new gig with post-hardcore group Dance Gavin Dance will help to solidify the edge his vocals have always had, because […]
Kacey Musgraves could easily be contemporary country’s next big thing. She’s a sharp, detailed songwriter with a little bit of an edge, and while it’s tempting to think of her as another coming of Taylor Swift, say, she’s got a bit of an edge, and the kind of sureness about what she’s doing as a […]
The 10 songs on Kevin Lee & The Kings album “Breakout” are well worth a listen for their big hooks, chunky guitars and sheer joy to rock out to. From “Gold Digger” with its quirky low-key verse to the catchy “Too Little Too Late,” Lee’s songs will stay in your head and keep you coming […]
A kickass, take-no-prisoners country Southern rock band out of Lexington, Kentucky, Fifth on the Floor mash Southern rock, honky tonk outlaw country, and even a touch of bluegrass all together in a big, stomping bundle, and on the Shooter Jennings-produced Ashes & Angels, the band’s third full-length release, all those strands come together perfectly, given […]

High Tide finds Whitworth collaborating with Bill Reynolds (Band of Horses) and producer Seth Kauffman, while continuing to hit the road with her core quartet. From the first rolling rhythms, it’s evident that this album charts new waters. Just as her music stems from Appalachian roots (she’s a favorite at MerleFest) but sheds its traditional skin […]
